Thank you to\u00a0the\u00a0bill sponsors for ushering these four important bills through the House Committee.\u00a0\u00a0These measures protect our freedom\u00a0in times of uncertainty and emergency, including during the current Covid-19 outbreak.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Please contact your State Representative and ask them to support these pro-Civil Rights bills.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/legis.la.gov\/legis\/ViewDocument.aspx?d=1167768\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> House Bill 746<\/strong><\/a>, sponsored by Rep. Ray Garofalo (R, Dist. 103), allows those who lawfully possess a firearm to carry concealed for self-defense during a mandatory evacuation under a declared state of emergency or disaster.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a title=\"https:\/\/legis.la.gov\/legis\/ViewDocument.aspx?d=1167891\" href=\"https:\/\/legis.la.gov\/legis\/ViewDocument.aspx?d=1167891\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">House Bill 781<\/a>,<\/strong> sponsored by Rep. Blake Miguez (R, Dist. 49), establishes that firearms and ammunition manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, suppliers, and retailers are \u201cEssential Businesses\u201d that shall not be prohibited from conducting business during a declared disaster or emergency.\u00a0 HB 781 further prevents law-abiding gun owners\u2019 rights from being infringed during proclaimed curfews.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a title=\"https:\/\/legis.la.gov\/legis\/ViewDocument.aspx?d=1158010\" href=\"https:\/\/legis.la.gov\/legis\/ViewDocument.aspx?d=1158010\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">House Bill 140<\/a>,<\/strong> sponsored by Rep. Blake Miguez (R, Dist. 49), prevents local authorities and municipalities from imposing restrictions to prohibit the possession of a firearm.\u00a0 Preemption legislation is designed to stop municipalities from creating a patchwork of different laws that turn a law-abiding citizen into a criminal for simply crossing a jurisdictional line.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a title=\"https:\/\/legis.la.gov\/legis\/ViewDocument.aspx?d=1161502\" href=\"https:\/\/legis.la.gov\/legis\/ViewDocument.aspx?d=1161502\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">House Bill 334<\/a>,<\/strong> sponsored by Reps.
